Ethnic groups
Half of Fijians are of Melanesian origin with some Polynesian influences, while the rest are mainly descendants of Indian workers. There are also European and Chinese minorities. Banabans bought the island of Rambi with the purpose of settling there since their own island was left uninhabitable by phosphate mining.
