Area
106,000 square km (1 km = 0.62 miles), an the Indian Ocean archipelago 650 km southwest of Sri Lanka, made up of 1,196 coral islands, of which only 220 are inhabited. The islands cover a land area of just under 300 sq. km (115 sq. miles).

Language
Dhivehi (a Sinhalese dialect) is the official language, but English and Arabic are also spoken.
