1,267,000 sq km (1 km = 0.62 miles), bordering Algeria and Libya to the north, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south, Mali and Burkina Faso to the west. Apart from a small region along the Niger Valley in the southwest near the capital, the country is entirely savannah or desert.
Language
French is the official language, but several local languages are also spoken.
