LONDON (AlertNet) - Between 1994 and 2003, almost 5,700 natural disasters claimed the lives of 673,000 people and affected 2.58 billion, according to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
That compares with more than a million deaths and 1.63 billion people affected in the 1984-1993 period.
