AlertNet
asked 103 humanitarian professionals, media personalities, academics and
activists which “forgotten” emergencies they would urge the world’s media to
focus on in 2005.
Conflict in
Democratic Republic of Congo topped the poll as the world’s worst “forgotten”
crisis, followed by war in northern Uganda, conflict in southern and western
Sudan, the HIV/AIDS pandemic, humanitarian suffering in West Africa,
displacement in Colombia, misery in Chechnya, strife in Haiti, insurgency in
Nepal and infectious diseases such as malaria and tuberculosis.
