
TROPICAL STORM RISK

Intense hurricane Ivan struck the United States as a tropical storm at about 18:00 GMT on 16 September. Data supplied by the US National Hurricane Center suggest that the point of landfall was near 33.1 N, 87.0 W. Ivan brought 1-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around 92 km/hr (57 mph). Wind gusts in the area may have been considerably higher.
