Hurricane Vince struck Portugal as a tropical storm at about 03:00 GMT on 11 October. Data supplied by the US National Hurricane Center suggest that the point of landfall was near 36.4 N, 9.5 W. Vince brought 1-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around 74 km/hr (46 mph). Wind gusts in the area may have been considerably higher.
