PREVIOUS | NEXTTropical storm 01A struck the Maldives at about 06:00 GMT on 14 January. Data supplied by the US Navy and Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Center suggest that the point of landfall was near 6.6 N, 73.9 E. 01A brought 1-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around 74 km/hr (46 mph). Wind gusts in the area may have been considerably higher.
