Tropical storm Isobel struck Australia at about 06:00 GMT on 3 January. Data supplied by the US Navy and Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Center suggest that the point of landfall was near 20.1 S, 119.8 E. Isobel brought 1-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around 74 km/h (46 mph). Wind gusts in the area may have been considerably higher.
