SITUATION On 28 January, Guyana's Government declared Regions 2 and 5 disaster areas and called United Nations and donors for support in rehabilitation of drainage infrastructure and restoration of livelihoods. Mostly farmers or agricultural labourers lost entire livelihoods: subsistence, cash crops and livestock. Water continues to rise in Region 5. Possibility of rain and floods in new areas. ACTION Civil Defence Commission, NGOs and UN agencies in support of disaster relief operation. Representative of donors visited the most affected areas. 20 mobile teams visiting affected areas on daily basis. Government provided monetary assistance to affected families. Assessment of impact ongoing.
