Tropical cyclone Gene was located near 18.7S, 172.8E approximately 415nm east-northeast of Noumea, New Caledonia at 0600 UTC on January 30. Gene was moving westward at 6knots with maximum sustained winds of 60 knots (69mph) and gusts up to 75 knots (86mph).
