This map illustrates the estimated population density for the earthquake-affected province of South Kivu, DR Congo, as well as the affected areas within western Rwanda and Burundi. The population density dataset (LandScan) has been estimated for the year 2005, and produced by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Earthquake epicenters shown in this map were provided by the USGS and represent all recorded seismic events between 3 - 4 February 2008.

This is a preliminary analysis and has not been validated in the field.
