UNHCR Somalia
Note: Estimates of numbers of IDPs vary widely and the above statistics are an incomplete estimate for areas covered. The figures listed above are compiled as follows: estimated 400,000 protracted IDPs who were displaced as of Jan 2007. estimated 700,000 IDPs displaced by violence in Mogadishu (of which some were protracted IDPs included in the above figure.) estimated 50,000 IDPs displaced by the border conflict between Somaliland and Puntland. IDPs who have been recently displaced by drought, floods, and clan conflict are NOT included since it is believed that most of these IDPs return to their area of origin shortly after the conditions leading to their displacement have been rectified. As a result the official reporting figure for the total number of IDPs in Somalia is "Approximately 1 million".
