Damage Overview: Goz Amer Refugee Camp Following Accidental Fire on 11 April 2008, Chad

Chad - This map provides an overview of the satellite-detected fire damage to buildings (tent shelters) in the Goz Amer refugee camp, following an accidental fire on 11 April 2008, Chad. Fire was initially detected with the MODIS Aqua sensor at 11:20 UTC. Fire affected areas in the camp were identified with Formosat-2 imagery recorded on 16 April 2008 at a spatial resolution of 2 meters. The total fire-affected area was estimated at approximately 65,000 m2. Additionally, it was estimated that possibly 480 camp buildings/ shelter tents were fire affected using a QuickBird satellite image recorded 6 Nov 2004, and accessed through Google Earth. These results have not yet been validated in the field and are subject to revision. Please send additions/corrections to the contact information below.
