Liberians running short of supplies
Nigerian peacekeepers were welcomed by Monrovia's war-weary population. Amid the cheers were heartfelt cries for help in getting food and supplies. Three attacks by the rebel Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy (LURD) since June have cost at least 2,000 lives and left hundreds of thousands of people living from hand to mouth in the besieged capital.
