Taking a break from filming,
the Coronation Street stars held their own fair-trade tea and coffee break to draw attention to the unfair conditions suffered by farmers in the developing world.
ActionAid, an
international development charity, is calling all tea and coffee lovers to hold their own break or fundraising event, on Friday 29 February, to support its work with small-scale farmers in the
developing world and take action against the global injustices that keep them locked in a cycle of poverty.
Whether it’s a sponsored afternoon tea with friends, a meeting of
colleagues over an early morning espresso or the perfect chance to invite that special someone back for coffee, it’s easy to get involved and raise money.
All the funds raised on
February 29 will go directly to ActionAid’s vital work in re-addressing the unfair conditions and pay suffered by farmers in the poorest parts of the world. Through education, training and
helping them fight for their rights to land and better conditions, ActionAid works to transform farmers’ lives for the better and having a long lasting impact on the local community.
It only takes a little to make a lot of difference, ranging from £4 to buy disease resistant seedlings for a farm in Ghana to £153 to help an entire community in Malawi store seeds for
use in poor harvests.
