Thousands were killed and millions affected when Cyclone Sidr hit Bangladesh. Fifty thousand people were killed or injured by flying debris and falling trees. Some people have lost everything. Nearly a million homes were destroyed or partially damaged and an estimated one million acres of cropland ruined. Water sources and tubewells have been destroyed or contaminated. Hundreds of thousands of lives were saved by cyclone shelters built by Christian Aid's partners since the last emergency appeal in 1991.
