Monday, 12 May 2008

The Popular Congress Party(PCP)announced that the security authorities have arrested the party’s leader Dr.Hassan Al-Turabi and four top members of his party today, following the attack launched by the Justice and Equality Movement on Omdurman city on Saturday.

Security forces arrested Al-Turabi at his home early morning today about an hour after returning from a conference of his party in Sinnar State. On the other hand, the wife of Dr. Bashir Adam, a leading member in the Popular Congress Party revealed to Miraya FM that the security forces have also arrested her husband on suspicion of involvement in the Omdurman events. For his part, the State Minister of Information, Dr. Kamal Obeid confirmed to Miraya FM that the arrest of Al-Turabi was based on information obtained by the security authorities which indicate the involvement of the Popular Congress Party in the Omdurman events. Mr. Obeid added that the government will take legal action against him if the information is proven right.
