Pakistan update: Merlin’s team treating up to 2,000 patients a day

Merlin’s medical teams in Pakistan are working around the clock to deliver vital health care to people displaced by the conflict in SWAT valley. Our teams are treating as many as 2,000 patients a day.

Merlin has eight static health clinics set up in the camps, as well as eight mobile clinics travelling throughout the region bringing health care to those sheltering displaced families.

Six static and six mobile clinics are dedicated to treating malnutrition â€" one of the most serious health issues facing vulnerable men, women and children in the region.

Continued fighting in the SWAT and FATA regions of Pakistan has forced 2.3 million people from their homes in the largest internal displacement since the Rwandan genocide.

Merlin’s Country Director in Pakistan, Maria Luiza Galer commented:

“The situation is placing an enormous strain on families who are hosting the displaced people. There are simply too many people and too few facilities for this to be an effective solution. We have to be vigilant against disease outbreaks and ensure everyone has access to the health care they need.”
