Merlin’s team in the Central African Republic (CAR) has just started a week-long distibution of mosquito nets to all children under five years old in Nana Gribizi.

Around 26,000 insecticide-treated nets are being distributed, together with 26,000 bars of soap, in an area the size of Wales.

Rebel-controlled villages in the north are also being covered: Bruno Fugah, Merlin’s Country Director in CAR, met the rebel leader Lakoue who gave his consent and cooperation to secure safe passage for Merlin staff.

Mass mosquito net distribution in CAR

By December 22nd, all children under five in Nana Gribizi will be sleeping under a bed net â€" one of the most effective and simplest ways to protect them from a disease which claims millions of lives every year.

"Merlin is distributing nets and soap alongside a UNICEF mass measles vaccination campaign in the area which will see over 22,000 children immunised," Bruno explained.

"It’s everyone’s role to help protect vulnerable children here â€" whether you’re a rebel leader, Government official, parent or NGO - so it’s fantastic that we’re all working together to make this happen.”
