Silver Spring, MD—The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) announces the designation of ADRA as an official association in Morocco. In August, ADRA Morocco received a preliminary authorization valid for 60 days, after which a full, unlimited authorization will be granted to the office. ADRA Morocco is expected to receive official association status in early October 2007.

As a government-recognized association, ADRA Morocco will operate officially as a humanitarian agency, execute a broader spectrum of projects, and have a greater impact on Moroccan communities.

"ADRA's work will change completely now," says Michael Reich, country director for ADRA Morocco. "This will allow us to become a strong partner for development and humanitarian aid in this country with so many underestimated needs."

"It is a privilege to pioneer the first official ADRA office in Morocco," Reich continues. "I am thankful for the support of many courageous and faithful colleagues and friends, and I am grateful to God, who has blessed and will continue to bless ADRA's work in this special country."

"Having the registration officially confirmed and documented is an important step forward in making ADRA Morocco a fully professional and well governed partner in the ADRA network. It is essential in order for us to work together with those in Morocco who need our help," says Joerg Fehr, director for the ADRA Euro-Africa regional office located in Switzerland. "I would like to thank Michael Reich for his hard work as country director for Morocco, and trust that ADRA supporting offices around the world will continue to partner with ADRA Morocco in community development projects."

ADRA first implemented activities in Morocco in the mid-1980s. In 1998, ADRA Morocco welcomed its first country director, Jean-Phillipe Lezeau, and since then has been active in all areas of community development.

ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and emergency management without regard to political or religious association, age, gender, or ethnicity.
