Silver Spring, Maryland—On Friday, October 26, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Peru office welcomed to their Lima headquarters Mrs. Pilar Nores de Garcia, wife of Dr. Alan Garcia Perez, president of Peru.

Accompanied by her manager of social development, Violeta Correa, the first lady of Peru met with ADRA Peru staff members, among them Walter Britton, the country director for ADRA Peru, and Santos Guerrero, the director of operations.

During her three-hour visit, Nores de Garcia, who is an economist and active in several nongovernmental organizations in Peru that work to support children and strengthen families, learned about ADRA Peru's broad range of development and relief initiatives, including health programs that have successfully reduced the rate of chronic infant malnutrition.

In addition, ADRA staff shared details of ADRA's ongoing recovery programs on behalf of survivors of this past August's destructive earthquake in southern Peru.

At the end of the presentation, Nores de Garcia congratulated ADRA Peru on its successful humanitarian activities that continue to contribute to the country's development.

ADRA Peru implemented its first projects in 1965 and is now recognized as one of the largest and oldest nongovernmental organizations in Peru. ADRA Peru works in communities throughout the country, implementing programs in Basic Infrastructure, Basic Education, Economic Development, Agriculture, Health Care, and Democracy and Governance.

ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and emergency management without regard to political or religious association, age, gender, or ethnicity.

Additional information about ADRA can be found at www.adra.org.
