SILVER SPRING, Md.--In early March, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) distributed critical supplies to Ecuadorean families in the provinces of Guayas, Manabi, and Orellana, to help them recover from severe flooding that devastated their communities earlier this year.
A team of volunteers implemented this intervention under the direct supervision of ADRA coordinators, which distributed food, clothing, blankets, mosquito nets, shoes, and personal care kits. Priority was given to communities who were severely affected during the flooding, and had not received assistance from any other institution.
"Currently, we are distributing additional supplies to vulnerable families in other sectors affected by the flooding, and will continue to support those who are suffering from the disasters that have struck the country throughout the course of the year," said Giovanni Sanchez, project coordinator for ADRA Ecuador.
The items provided in the distribution were originally part of ADRA Ecuador's "Christmas in Action" campaign, which was completed in December 2008.
ADRA has been active in Ecuador since 1985, providing humanitarian assistance through initiatives in the areas of food security, economic development, health, emergency management, and education.
ADRA is a non-governmental organization present in 125 countries providing sustainable community development and disaster relief without regard to political or religious association, age, gender, race or ethnicity.
