MAG Vietnam - October report

SUMMARY:

- Nine Mine Action Teams (MATs), supported by three Community Liaison (CL) teams.

- Teams visited 2,442 houses, searching 5,304 square metres; performing 558 Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) tasks; and removing a total of 1,012 items of UXO.

- Community Liaison teams conducted seven community/partner meetings; visiting seven villages, conducting 1,384 house to house surveys; documenting 164 mine/UXO reports; generating two post-clearance impact reports.

- 1005 CWMD (Conventional Weapons Management & Destruction) items were removed and destroyed during the month.

- These activities benefited 27,566 people, mainly in remote, marginalised communities.

Quang Binh Province:

- Mobile Operations: All four MATs based in the province conducted mobile operations during the month, visiting 2,442 households, searching 5,304 sq/m of land and removing 609 items of UXO.

- Static Site Clearance: One MAT cleared 435 sq/m of land.

- EOD Response Tasks: One of the MATs conducted one EOD Response Tasks during the period, removing and destroying one UXO item.

- Community Liaison: CL teams conducted five community/partner meetings; visited seven villages, conducted 1,384 house-to-house surveys; documented 164 mine/UXO reports; generated two post-clearance impact reports.

Quang Tri Province:

- Mobile Operations: One MAT based in the province conducted mobile operations during the month, responding to Community Liaison information, removing 13 items of UXO.

- Scrapyards: Two MATs were also tasked with visiting 15 scrap yards in the province, removing 387 items of UXO.

- EOD Response Tasks: One MAT conducted one EOD Response Tasks during the period, removing and destroying two UXO items.

- Community Liaison: CL teams conducted two community/partner meetings.
