Situation A series of typhoons and storms in recent days have affected parts of China, Taiwan and the Philippines.

Typhoon Morakot has killed some 70 people in Taiwan, prompting mudslides in the southern part of the island; hundreds remain missing, and Morakot has caused at least US $275 million in crop damage. Morakot also killed 23 in the Philippines and eight in China, Reuters reported; the rains in China toppled some 10,000 dwellings.

Meanwhile, another storm, Tropical Storm Etau, affected other parts of East Asia; rains caused the deaths of 13 people in Japan, Reuters reported.

Response CWS will respond as needed upon requests from partners in the region. CWS partners are determining if they will respond to these disasters.
