Warm greetings from Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) Bangkok, Thailand.

ADPC is happy to introduce you to its new course on "GIS for Disaster Risk Management". We have successfully organized two regional courses at Bangkok. Based on a very positive response and feed back from our partner organizations and course participants, we are organizing the 3rd Regional course from 11-22 May 2009 with the collaboration of;

The International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) Enschede, The Netherlands The Geoinformatics Center, Asian Institute of Technology (AIT-GIC) Bangkok, Thailand It is pertinent to mention that on receiving positive feed back and duly meeting the need and objectives of the course, we have decided to conduct two courses this year. This specific course has been designed for the beginners in GIS, suitable for the Disaster Management practitioners who will initiate work on using GIS in Disaster Risk Management. The 2nd course is scheduled in December 2009 and would focus more on advanced GIS, more suitable for GIS professionals as well as DM practitioners.

The course on "GIS for Disaster Risk Management (GRSDM-3)" provides an excellent opportunity for Disaster Management practitioners to obtain essential skills and knowledge in GIS and their current application in disaster risk management. Participants will gain practical and technical knowledge on the uses of GIS in disaster prevention, preparedness and emergency response. Extensive exercises and simulations provide an insight into how GIS tools are applied in these fields, and the benefits and solutions that can be presented. Further detail information along with application form are available in the attached brochure and can also be found on http://www.itc.nl/education/courses/course_descriptions/_pdf/C09-ESA-TM-01.pdf or http://www.adpc.net/v2007/Downloads/2009/May/01_GIS_for_DRM[1].pdf or http://www.geoinfo.ait.ac.th
