Today Burkhard Gnärig, the CEO of the International Save the Children Alliance, announced that he will be leaving Save the Children on 31
March 2007 after holding this position for nine years. He thanked the Board of the International Save the Children Alliance for allowing him to leave at short notice in order to take up a new
position. Burkhard said: "I have been privileged to witness and support Save the Children's development to a dynamic global actor with ambitious joint projects. During these nine
years Save the Children has nearly tripled its global income and we have seen many exciting projects taking shape and delivering substantial benefits to children. As Save the Children's
five-year-strategy is fully on track I feel this is the right time to say goodbye." Burkhard will continue supporting Save the Children as a volunteer in the role of the Chair of Save
the Children Germany and, until the end of the year, as Chair of Save the Children Switzerland. Barry Clarke, the Chair of the International Save the Children Alliance, thanked Burkhard for
his leadership and added: "During his time in office, Burkhard has played a major role in strengthening the Save the Children Alliance and improving its capacityto create a better world for
children. His commitment to Save the Children and the children it serves has been exemplary." Alliance Secretariat Director Simon Cowell will serve as Acting Chief Executive until a
permanent successor has been appointed.
