Amongst other facts, the survey states that over 1000 people were killed in 2008 and even more were injured. By analysing the causes of armed violence, the perpetrators and the victims the report is intended to guide actions to increase democratic security at the national and community level. It is intended to be a tool for the application of the Geneva Declaration on Armed Violence and Development to Burundi and support efforts to make peace a reality for a vulnerable population.
