The Bay of Bengal is the geographical term for an area reaching from East India through Bengal and Nepal.
Bengal is strongly affected by the climate changes since the area is being hit by melt water from the Himalayas, rising water level of the ocean and intense cyclones. In Bangladesh the government predicts that the southern part of the country, where 40 million people live, will be flooded within the next 30 years while 13% of the entire country will be permanently flooded before 2080. The countries of Bengal is characterised by a high population density and few national resources to address the many recurrent catastrophes. The climate changes has made it almost impossible to guarantee food safety, personal safety, investment and growth. Dan Church Aid cooperates with local organisations in Bangladesh and local organisations in India . With our partner organisations we support the poorest rural districts to be strongly organised, to learn their rights and to develop their skills in craftsmanship and farming. Dan Church Aid also does disaster preparedness and relief aid in the region. This is why this years refund collection supports Dan Church Aid's Relief Aid Programme in Bengal just like we urge the festival guest to stand together and demand of the politicians that they create a fair climate deal that wont forget the poorest countries of the world.
