We are seeing a steady inflow of donations from people who are clearly giving what they can in these difficult times and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all
our donors. We will continue to accept, with deep gratitude, any and every donation to our appeal commented Irish Red Cross Secretary General, John Roycroft as the appeal raised close to
40,000 so far.Internationally, the Red Cross is helping people in four countries in Asia struck by disasters in less than a week and is now appealing for just under 12 million
to fund urgent shelter, food and medical needs.These are people who have lost their families, homes, and livelihoods in just a few minutes and who are now depending on help from the
Red Cross. The support of Irish people in providing this help is greatly appreciated, added John Roycroft.

Indonesian earthquake is just one of several disasters that struck in a near-simultaneous fashion across Asia with typhoons causing widespread devastation in the Philippines and Viet Nam, for which
the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is appealing for just under 12 million.
In Ireland, the Irish Red Cross works in every county in Ireland providing
First Aid and Community Care services. Voluntary service in Ireland alone has been valued at up to half a billion Euro, according to an Oireachtas Report (2005).
