(Portland, Ore. - May 14, 2009) Since May 1, Medical Teams International has sent seven shipments valued at $12.7 million in medicines and medical supplies going to help people in Honduras, Cameroon, Paraguay, Zambia and Moldova.
Five shipments are headed to Honduras, Cameroon, Paraguay, Zambia and Moldova. The other two shipments will be distributed through medical missions and pharmacies; Christian Aid Ministry in Ohio and Kingsway Charities in Virginia.
These shipments are used in a variety of ways. For example, Medical Teams International's partner, the National Cancer Coalition, in Paraguay, will use more than $1 million in medicines during cancer operations. TEVA and Watson Drugs and Ethicon Sutures will be used in these life saving operations. This shipment will help thousands of people.
"These supplies will be sent to hospitals, clinics and people in desperate need of medicines and medical supplies," says David Beltz, Director of Commodity Support at Medical Teams International, "We are thrilled that we have these supplies to ship out in this time when so many people need our help in these five countries - all in the same month. We also are grateful for our volunteers who help us pack up these important supplies so we can ship them in a cost-effective manner."
