Experts from around the world are to come to Oslo in April for a conference about mental health and humanitarian activities, organised
by the Norwegian Council for Mental Health, NCA and the Red Cross.
This will be the first conference of its kind to be held in Norway.
Humanitarian organisations, researchers and
local partner organisations have recognised not only that mental problems are very common in many humanitarian settings, but also that they present great challenges whenever and wherever they occur.
Aid workers often feel helpless in the face of physical suffering. Many feel the need to work through their own trauma before they are able to help others often in areas where such
problems are seldom discussed or even taboo.
Contributions from actors within the fields of development and research are encouraged. Deadline for submission of abstracts for
presentations is January 15th 2007.
