OPERATION USA TO SEND EMERGENCY AID FOR TYPHOON VICTIMS IN THE PHILIPPINES: worst flooding in Manila in decades destroys 80% of local health care infrastructure; hundreds of thousands directly affected.
Los Angeles-based Operation USA announced that it was preparing relief supplies to assist local health care agencies and NGOs in and around Manila as they try to assist nearly 450,000 people in immediate need of assistance as a direct result of flooding caused by torrential rains (totaling 18 inches—410 mm-- in just 24 hours) caused by Typhoon Ketsana, locally known as "Typhoon Ondoy".
Operation USA began working in The Philippines in 1985 providing disaster relief after a wide variety of natural disasters struck various parts of The Philippines.
The relief group is appealing for donations of funds from the public and corporate donations in bulk of health care materials, water purification supplies and food supplements which it then ships to Manila from its base in the Port of Los Angeles.
