A medical supplies donation
is easing the burden on a county hospital in south-west Romania. The donation of antibiotics, anti-flu medicines, bandages, dental supplies, medical gloves, gastrointestinal medicines, multi-vitamins
and personal care materials will be allocated to patients without medical insurance.
'There are many patients who do not have medical insurance. From 5,000 patients discharged from the
hospital every month, 100-150 persons are not on the lists of the Health Insurance Company,' said Bogdan Fanuta, Medical Director of the Emergency County Hospital in Dolj county.
Uninsured
patients have to pay for medicines and supplies used during their stay in the hospital.
'We are pleased to be able to support the medical services within the Emergency County Hospital
especially before the Winter period when the frequency of patients is growing,' said Cristina Balanescu, Dolj Area Development Program Manager.
During the last few years, both Dolj county
and the rest of Romania has been dealing with a series of difficulties due to scarce resources and results of the lingering reform process.
The budget allocation for health places Romania
last within European Union rankings.
The Health System reform process is focused on improving the health condition of the population, enhancing efficiency in using resources, and increasing
the level and quality of the medical assistance of the population.
The reform aims to restructure the way health services are organised and provided, and to change the way health activity
is financially supported.
World Vision Romania's Dolj Area Development Program provided the Emergency County Hospital with the medical supplies, valued at US$2,763.
