World Vision has begun
a system distributing basic . foods to 420 families in north Gaza today, reaching more than three thousand affected people with enough to eat for three weeks
With cash and supplies
scarce in Gaza, many families are struggling amid the damage and widespread loss of basic possessions during the military operation by Israel. A local church in Gaza City has partnered with World
Vision to distribute vouchers to needy Christian and Muslim families. Each voucher is redeemed at a local supplier in exchange for a parcel containing items including oil, canned tuna and rice. Each
family also receives a picture brochure in Arabic that warns them about the dangers of unexploded ordnance (UXO) and how to recognize it.
This voucher system has allowed a jump-start to
providing emergency relief within Gaza while World Vision's delivery of additional humanitarian supplies by truck awaits transport by UN convoy.
World Vision's emergency response to the
Gaza Crisis will reach more than 100,000 people with delivery and distribution of 16,000 Family Emergency Kits, 8,000 blankets and 8,000 hygiene kits in Gaza. Items in the Family Emergency Kits
include canned tuna and beef, vegetable oil, beans, lentils, tea, biscuits and the UXO flyer. The first of these shipments, for 1,144 families, is packed and ready for delivery, pending confirmation
through the logistics coordinating body currently managing all aid deliveries into Gaza.
With child protection and well-being a key focus of recovery, World Vision will also establish
'Child Friendly Spaces' in north and south Gaza to give children a safe haven in which to play, rest and interact with each other.
