Aug 4 - At least seventeen people are killed when a building collapses amid thunderstorms and torrential rain in Shijiazhuang, the capital of northern China's Hebei province.

The dead were buried under debris as the building belonging to the Tengfei Malleable Iron Casting Co. Ltd. collapsed at 0915 (0115GMT) local time, Chinese state media reported.

Three people were being treated for injuries at hospital, official news agency Xinhua said.

An unidentified villager was quoted by state media saying the two-storey building, which was under construction, had collapsed after a lightning strike and loud thunder.

More than 20 people were buried by debris and were thought to be mostly construction workers, state media said.
