FACTBOX-Algeria violence death toll falls in October

Nov 7 (Reuters) - The death toll from political violence in Algeria fell to 13 in October from 31 in September and 125 in August, according to a Reuters count based on newspaper reports.

Ten rebels and three members of government forces were killed in the north African OPEC member country last month, which also saw the arrest of two rebels and the surrender of a third.

Following are some of the main developments:

Oct. 30 - The army killed two rebels, wounded two others and seized two Kalashnikov rifles in two ambushes in Tipaza and Constantine provinces.

Oct. 26 - Government forces killed two rebels suspected of links to the al Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb, in Tebessa province 630 km (390 miles) east of Algiers.

Oct. 23 - Police seized 30 kg of explosives at a garage in El Oued. The garage is believed to be used by explosives-makers.

Oct. 21 - A rebel with an AK-47 rifle and three hand grenades surrendered to security forces in El Oued province, 500 km (300 miles) southeast of Algiers. He gave police information on rebels, including foreigners, operating in the area.

Oct. 18 - The army killed two rebels and arrested two others in a gun battle near Boumerdes town, 50 km (30 miles) east of the capital.

Oct. 15 - Three municipal guards were killed and two others seriously wounded when a bomb, planted by rebels, exploded in Setif province, 325 km (200 miles) east of Algiers. The dead were carrying out a search operation.

Oct. 9 - Government troops killed four rebels in an ambush in a mountainous area in Tlemcen province, 580 km (360 miles) west of Algiers. The army seized four Kalashnikovs in the operation.
