FACTBOX-Security developments in Iraq, Aug 23

Aug 23 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 1545 GMT on Saturday.

* denotes new or updated item.

* BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed a senior advisor in the Ministry of Culture in his car in a drive-by shooting in central Baghdad, police said.

* MOSUL - Iraqi police found the body of a civilian bearing gunshot wounds in western Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

* MOSUL - Gunmen shot dead an Iraqi army officer and a soldier in an attack in eastern Mosul, police said.

* MOSUL - Two militants accidently blew themselves up while trying to plant a bomb in eastern Mosul, police said.

* BAGHDAD - A rocket attack on an Iraqi military base wounded three soldiers in northern Baghdad's Adhamiya district, police said.

NEAR BAIJI - Gunmen killed four members of a U.S.-backed neighbourhood patrol in a drive-by shooting at their checkpoint just south of Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

NEAR BAQUBA - Militants kidnapped eight men in a raid on their town just south of Baquba, 65 km (40 miles) north of Baghdad, police said.

BAQUBA - A roadside bomb killed one person in eastern Baquba, police said.

BAQUBA - A roadside bomb wounded two rubbish-collectors in southern Baquba, police said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces detained 13 suspected militants while targeting al Qaeda in different parts of Iraq on Friday and Saturday, the U.S. military said.
