BERLIN, Jan 22 (Reuters) - EU President Germany urged on Monday the rapid formation of a stable government in Serbia following parliamentary elections which left the country in political limbo.

"Yesterday, parliamentary elections took place in Serbia with a very positive participation rate of about 60 percent. The German government is very pleased that democratic forces have thereby been strengthened," said government spokesman Thomas Steg.

"For Germany it is important that after the result of the parliamentary elections, the formation of a government happens quickly. Important decisions are looming in Serbia and a capable, strong government is very desirable in the coming weeks."
