Troops ready barricades to block Yangon protests

YANGON, Sept 27 (Reuters) - Myanmar troops and police prepared barbed-wire barricades at major junctions in central Yangon on Thursday in preparation for expected new monk-led mass protests against military rule, witnesses said.

They said seven fire engines which could be used as water cannons were stationed near the Sule Pagoda in the city centre which has been the end-point of huge protests, now in their second week, against 45 years of military rule.
