Thai king fails to turn up for birthday address

BANGKOK, Dec 4 (Reuters) - Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej failed to turn up at Bangkok's Chitralada Palace on Thursday for a birthday eve address to the nation, the event's master of ceremonies said in comments broadcast on national radio.

"His Majesty has graciously assigned His Royal Highness the Crown Prince to attend on his behalf," the announcer said. (Writing by Ed Cropley; Editing by Darren Schuettler)
