EU readies for approval of Lufthansa's buy of AUA

BRUSSELS, July 31 (Reuters) - The European Commission will draft a decision to clear an acquisition of Austrian Airlines (AUA) by Lufthansa <LHAG.DE> following the latest proposals made by the German air carrier, the European Union's executive said on Friday.

EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes said in a statement she would propose approval of the takeover following remedies proposed by Lufthansa to address competition concerns.

"After talks earlier today about the results of this week's market test, Lufthansa has put forward further improved remedies to address the competition concerns raised in this case," Kroes said in a statement.

"The draft decision will be submitted to the Advisory Committee of the Member States and a final proposal will be presented, for adoption, to the College of Commissioners as soon as possible," she added.
