BAGHDAD - Police said they found 44 bodies in different parts of Baghdad, all apparent victims of sectarian violence. *BAGHDAD - Car bombs ripped through a fruit and vegetable market in a Shi'ite area of central Baghdad, killing 51 people and wounding 90, police and an Interior Ministry official said. BALAD - Gunmen ambushed a vehicle carrying Iraqi soldiers in civilian clothes, killing five and wounding one in the town of Balad north of Baghdad an Iraqi security source said. BAGHDAD - Gunmen opened fire on a police checkpoint outside west Baghdad's main Yarmouk hospital, killing at least one policeman and wounding two, an Interior Ministry official said. A security guard at Yarmouk gave a different account, saying three people were killed and seven wounded when gunmen in two cars tried to force their way into the compound, sparking clashes with hospital guards. BAGHDAD - A Katyusha rocket killed two and wounded six from the same family when it landed on a home in the mainly Sunni Adil district of Baghdad, police said. Sunni politicians said they were conducting talks in a mosque nearby at the time. KHALIS - Gunmen killed two Shi'ites and wounded three others when they attacked a funeral procession near the town of Khalis, 80 km (50 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. ANBAR PROVINCE - A U.S. soldier was shot dead by insurgents in the rebel province of Anbar on Friday, the U.S. military said in a statement. YUSUFIYA - A roadside bomb killed one person and wounded six when it exploded as a patrol for the electricity protection force passed by in the town of Yusufiya, 15 km (9 miles) south of Baghdad, police said. BAQUBA - The U.S. military said a joint U.S.-Iraqi force raided insurgent strongholds of the religiously mixed city of Baquba, north of Baghdad. Police sources said they arrested 35 suspected insurgents and freed a number of hostages. ISKANDARIYA - A small bomb killed one person and wounded another in a residential area of Iskandariya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, on Friday night, a police source said. BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed police Captain Hayder Mousa in the district of New Baghdad, police said. MUSSAYAB - Police found the body of a young man in the town of Mussayab, about 60 km (37 miles) south of Baghdad, police said. The body had numerous gunshot wounds. MOSUL - Insurgents killed a contractor in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, police said. MOSUL - A roadside bomb wounded three policemen in Mosul, police said. OTHER DEVELOPMENTS BAGHDAD - A truck killed 18 people and injured eight when it ploughed into commuters waiting at a busy bus station south of Baghdad in what police described as an accident.
