COLOMBO, March 10 (Reuters) - At least seven people were killed and 20 were wounded including the telecommunications minister in a suspected Tamil Tiger suicide blast at a parade in southern Sri Lanka on Tuesday, officials said.

The blast happened in Godapitiya in Matara district, about 160 km (99 miles) south of the capital Colombo, during a national festival to celebrate the birthday of the prophet Mohammed.

"Six ministers were there and terrorists used this opportunity to target us. Only one minister, Mahinda Wijesekara, got injured. Seven bodies have been found at the spot," Oil Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie told Reuters from the scene.

Wijesekara is minister for post and telecommunications. Earlier, a defence spokesman said as many as eight people were killed. (Reporting by Ranga Sirilal and Shihar Aneez; Editing by Dean Yates)
