COLOMBO, March 26 (Reuters) - A loud explosion was heard at an Air Force base within Sri Lanka's international airport north of Colombo, police said on Monday, as truce monitors checked reports of a rebel air attack.

"There has been a loud explosion from the Air Force camp in Katunayake not far from the airport runway where all our attack aircraft are parked," said Deputy Inspector General of Police Jayantha Wickramaratne.

"We are checking. We cannot reach over the telephone," he added. There were no details of any damage or casualties.
