TEHRAN, March 7 (Reuters) - Iranian police killed six drug smugglers and seized 5 tonnes of narcotics in clashes in a volatile south-eastern region on Saturday, the official IRNA news agency reported. Three policemen were wounded during the operation in Sistan-Baluchestan province, which borders both Pakistan and Afghanistan, IRNA said. The area is known for frequent clashes between security forces and well-armed drug traffickers. Iran is a key transit route for narcotics smuggled from Afghanistan to the West and elsewhere.
