LUCKNOW, India, March 13 (Reuters) - Nineteen members of a wedding party were killed when the bus in which they were travelling plunged down a gorge and into a river in northern India, an official said on Tuesday.

More than two dozen were also injured late on Monday in Rudraprayag district of the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, about 300 km (186 miles) from the state capital, Dehradun.

"The bus had to stop on account of ongoing work for widening of the road when its rear wheel sank in the soft debris, sending it into the Mandakini river," the official, who requested anonymity, said.

The bride and the bridegroom were not in the bus, he said.
