BAGHDAD, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Ten people died and 20 were wounded in clashes between U.S. forces and gunmen overnight in the Shula district in western Baghdad, police said on Friday.

U.S. helicopters opened fire during the clashes while families were sleeping on rooftops to keep cool. The wounded included women and children, police sources said.

A spokesman for U.S. forces said they were checking the report but were unable to provide immediate information.
