BAGHDAD, Nov 8 (Reuters) - The American ambassador in Iraq said on Wednesday U.S. President George W. Bush was still committed to his policy in Iraq and would work with Democrats after their election gains to achieve success. "Americans are prepared to continue to support Iraq as Iraqis take the needed steps," Zalmay Khalilzad said. "The president is the architect of U.S. foreign policy. He is the commander in chief of our armed forces. He understands what's at stake in Iraq," he told an embassy reception attended by Iraqi government officials and Iraqi legislators in Baghdad. "He is committed to working with both houses of the American Congress to get support needed for the mission in Iraq to succeed."
