BAGHDAD, March 18 (Reuters) - Iraqi police on Sunday found the decapitated bodies of nine policemen with their hands bound and bearing signs of torture in a rural area in western Iraq where al Qaeda militants have a strong presence, police said.

Police Colonel Tareq al-Theybani said the bodies were found in an abandoned post office in Juwayba, a town near the city of Ramadi, capital of Anbar province, a Sunni Arab insurgent stronghold.

Theybani said the bodies were found during military operations against al Qaeda, which is engaged in an escalating power struggle with Sunni Arab tribesmen in Anbar.
